The Garrard County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), along
with agencies
in all other Kentucky counties, was created by state law in 1998. The
official function of the Garrard County EMA is to serve the public safety
interest of all citizens within its jurisdiction and also assist in
statewide
emergency response efforts. The Garrard County EMA is an organizational
unit of county government, with the director and deputy directors serving
at the pleasure of the county Judge/Executive.
The Garrard County EMA is a key
player in major emergencies and
disaster events. The Garrard County EMA is the lead organization for
preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery efforts and strives
to fulfill these obligations through public education, maintaining emergency
communications systems, organizing training events, and coordinating
with local first responders as well as state and federal emergency
management agencies.
