In 2017, the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant, or BGCAPP, focused on testing equipment and systems to destroy Kentucky’s chemical weapons stockpile. In the main plant, which is set to destroy nerve agent munitions, workers tested and demonstrated equipment especially designed for BGCAPP. The project also faced obstacles this year. Due to funding challenges, work on the Explosive Destruction Technology facility was temporarily halted. Supplemental funding allowed work to resume on this facility, which will destroy the mustard munitions stockpile.
